Running in Turfs

Adidas adi5 X Turf

Over the past few weeks, I have been running a lot more to ensure I stay in shape throughout the holiday period. Under normal circumstance, I would wear a solid pair of running shoes – you might remember the adiZero running shoes I purchased earlier this year. But randomly, I decided to try out the Adidas adi5 X turf shoes last week for a run – and to my surprise, they turned out to be fantastic to run in! So much so that I have continued to wear them running daily.

Since these boots are designed for artificial surfaces, I was super surprised that they were comfortable on concrete. They give a nice bounce and on each step my foot feels really cushioned. Running shoes are designed to give the same type of foot protection, but I have ultimately found the turf shoes to offer much better support. Is it just the soccer player in me wanting to wear a “cleat” off the field? Who knows, but it got me looking on soccer.com for a fresh pair to use for running in, and I spotted a new Night Sky/White/Cyan version of the Adidas adi5 X that I am going to invest in!

Ultimately for now, my current pair of adi5 X have been converted to my running shoes! Has anyone else used turf shoes for running in? If so, share your experience with me in the comments below!

  1. Blue ones are nice.

    Still want those lemon ones.

Would've been a nice Christmas present.

  2. I had a pair of t90's with turf outsoles and used them for both turf and futsal. i find that dedicated futsal shoes offer more cushion and overall comfort (not to mention grip) on hard concrete and pavement. As for running, i still find running shoes or cross trainers are still the best choice.

  3. I use turf shoes for running and gym all the time. The are really just sneakers with the texturised outsole.

  4. So do turf shoes offer good traction on concrete? Because I would have thought that some of the more plastic (cleated) turf shoes would slip on concrete. BTW I am currently using my Total 90 III Shoot IC as my go-to running shoes.

  5. How long have they lasted? If they'll run a couple hundred miles before being ruined I'll switch to them from running shoes for road work.

  6. I found that nike bravata TF are perfect for running.
