Cleatology – Power Sierra Football Boots

I just received a package from my Dad, and in it amongst it all was an absolute classic Shoot! magazine from 1979! While scrolling through the pages, I found this advertisement for some classic boots. For the price of only £8.99, you could purchase a brand new pair of Power Sierra football boots, a British made boot that featured a leather upper and the Kent Sole System (replaceable studs). It is quite amazing how the overall design has evolved over time while still maintaining the core characteristics!

Before seeing the ad, I had never heard of the Power company before and after spending some time searching online I can’t find many details about them or what happened to the company. The boots are a pure heritage design and look like they had a lot to offer top players. If you have worn a pair or know more about them, feel free to leave us a comment below!

  1. I have a feeling power got bought over by BATA. The sports shoes sold at BATA are branded as Power with the same emblem

  2. When is the review going to be out? 😉

  3. Do you think you can get your hands on a pair?

  4. hai.., i'm from Malaysia.POWER is my 1st soccer cleat that my father bought for me while i'm in primary school in year 1998…now this brand still sold in BATA outlets around Malaysia….kindly you can surf BATA website for more details..

  5. Absolutely love the classic boots and amazing price tag as well. And yes i think power and Bata are working together, in our country power and bata is arguably the best in delivering durable shoes. It also has the same arrow design to it.

  6. man i ssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wish that i win the new nike superfly 3.

  7. I would wear these over any synthetic crap boot any day of the week.

  8. i was just searching for any info on these myself i had an all black pair in about 77 , all other lads in team sort of sniggered at them because everyone else wore adidas beckenbauer at the time. great football boots though , dead comfy and i looked after them well , cleaning them after every game. taking the studs out to clean the sole and putting dubbin on them. putting newspaper in them to keep shape ,letting them dry off.

  9. I had a pair or Power boots circa 1982 – they were the best boots I have ever had!

  10. Good article. These were my first boots as a 9 year old in 1980. My Dad said he’d only buy me boots once I made the team and on the day of my first match these were waiting at home for me. I can confirm that they definitely came from BATA as a family friend worked at the factory in Essex that made/sold them, so probably got them cheap. Incidentally £8.99 is about £38 today (2012) allowing for inflation. So were they cheap for a relatively unknown brand?
Back then my friends and I wasn’t brand aware but the one thing that separated you was whether you had screw in studs or not. And if you had Aluminium studs then you were cool! I remember deliberately sliding on the plastic studs (these came with) in the playground to wear them down so I could ask for some aluminium studs. 3 weeks later I had aluminiums!
