Joma Power Released – Power and Force

Joma Power Royal Fluo Lime

Joma has taken a swipe at the Power category by releasing the new and very aptly named Power range! It is pretty easy to spot what Joma are looking to do with this one, with added elements placed right across the vamp, and “Power & Force” wrote across the side of the boot.

The first thing to talk about is obviously the raised TPU panels placed across the forefoot, which offer a similar look to the Puma PWR-CT 1.12‘s Power Shooting Technology. On the Joma Power, they are less prominent and more of an added design characteristic than anything else. It is on the instep where the boot offers an advancement. An almost like honeycomb paneling is located along the pass and control region to enhance touch on the ball. In essence, it is a type of control pad that offers extra cushion as the ball impacts.

Another positive aspect is the fact that the boot weighs in at 8.6oz, making them a pretty light Power compared to the rest of the market. The upper is a durable synthetic microfiber and Joma has g0ne with an off-centered lacing.

In terms of retail, Joma keep to their economical pricing structure with the Power hitting the market at $59.99. It is a very attractive option for players who are on a budget but want something slightly different.

There is nothing ordinary about the look of the range, with plenty of wild color combo’s adding to the boots makeup. First up is the eccentric looking Royal/Fluo Lime colorway, as pictured. It offers a pretty unmistakable look that will be easy to spot on field. Joma also has 3 other colorways already released to the US market, all of which will be featured over the next few weeks.

Finally, I have some thoughts on the naming convention. Joma play off a very simple strategy of naming the boots for what they are intended to do – offer Power. The Spanish company are never going to match the top tier boots, but they continue to produce quality/dependable boots at affordable prices. By branding these with such a simple and specific name, it opens up the opportunity to be mentioned to players looking for a dominant boot. Personally, I have never been truly impressed with Joma boots but because of their price, they are well worth at least checking out.

As always, we have a pair en-route for review – stay tuned for that over the coming weeks!
