Puma evoSPEED 1.2 Released

Puma evoSPEED 1.2 Black

Coming off yesterday’s Open Cup 1st round loss yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to return home to a new pair of boots on my doorstep this morning – the Puma evoSPEED 1.2. We have been waiting to see the initial roll-out release of the boot after the evoSPEED Camo was pushed out as a teaser a few weeks back, and Puma officially revealed the new range today.

And they don’t disappoint on this one!

Based off of what we saw on the Camo images, things looked pretty standard for an evoSPEED release. But, they are far different than anticipated with a unique design and some added texture to the upper. In a sense, the Camo version did exactly what Puma had intended it to do and I am sure that anyone who snagged a pair would have known what we know now about the new boot well in advance.

Anyone interested in a pair can currently pre-order a pair for $179.99.

What is new with this version?

First thing of note is the upper, with Puma deciding to add a little extra texture via small dimples. It adds an unusual look but has the potential to be a game changer on the evoSPEED, whether that be in regular playing conditions or on days when it is raining.

The upper is a single layer microfiber that feels very thin and holds an extremely soft feel. Inside the boot, Puma has again implemented the EverFIT cage system that provides additional strength to the upper.

Visually, there is a lot going on with this Black/Fluo Yellow colorway – the most obvious being the large PUMA hit on the lateral side of the boot. To be honest, I like this a lot and I feel like Puma has taken a bold step with its inclusion. We have seen on several Nike releases how players have reacted with mixed emotions to a large hit, but it elevated the look of this new release. Added to that, the boot features subtle black glossy graphics that round off the look of the more visible yellow prints.

The outsole is reconfigured with smaller conical studs that give the player a better grip on the ground and enhances maneuverability on the pitch. For optimal comfort, a minimized tongue and heel have been added, reducing pressure on the Achilles tendon whilst the sock liner distributes the foot’s pressure evenly.

I’m definitely excited to get these in to testing to see just what they have to offer. Stay tuned for a full review to come in the next few weeks, they are set to be worn by several pro players including Falcao and Sergio Aguero this weekend.

What do you think of the new release and is it an improvement for the evoSPEED?
