Up Close and Personal With the Nike Vapor Supernova

Seeing as Cristiano Ronaldo had the Week of his Life* by scoring all 4 goals in Portugal’s Home/Away World Cup playoff versus Sweden, fully profiling his new personalized boots seems quite fitting. There are not many players in the world that get their own fully personalized pair of boots, but we are used to seeing CR frequently getting his very own.

This latest version is extreme and definitely out of the ordinary. The Nike Vapor Supernova (or Vapor Galaxy) is intended to provide a visual appearance to match the performances of Ronaldo – the phrase “out of this world” comes to mind. He has been putting in some seriously impressive performances over the past few months, with his hattrick that sealed Portugal’s ticket to Brazil really screaming out the fact he wants the Ballon d’Or title. As things stand, and with Messi’s recent injury problems, Ronaldo is leading the way as my choice for player of the year!

Nike use a printed graphic overlay that is easily one of the most identifiable boots ever released. It is actually the digital print of the Star Vela Supernova and it includes a unique seven star path print, paying homage to Cristiano’s jersey number. Finding the seven star path is actually pretty tough as I counted more than 7 large stars, I’m sure there is a trick to this one and maybe some of you astronomers can provide more insight!

To add some additional pop, Nike has added a chrome swoosh flecked with silver fleck and a Blue Glow outline. I’m a fan of the Swoosh design as it is vibrant and very different to any other style Nike has used in the past.

Inside the 6.6oz boot, Nike make sure to remind us who these boots are intended for “Created to the exact specifications of Cristiano Ronaldo“. It is a tidy touch and one that provides a more personal touch. They also add a signature CR7 hit on the heel to ensure fellow players are not under the illusion these boots have been created just for you!

In terms of performance, you will find that the Supernova edition provides the same results as the regular Tejin microfiber version of the Nike Vapor IX. There is also a dimpled, Teijin version but CR seems to see more value in the smooth material. Personally, I like the dimpled feel but I’m definitely not going to go against the requirements of arguably the best player in the world.

In the box, you also get a signature CR7 string bag in a similar color to the boots. I’m a huge fan of Nike for the fact they always offer a string bag!
