How the Puma evoPOWER Performed This Weekend!

Puma evoPOWER Debut

We have seen a good number of stars switch into the all new Puma evoPOWER 1 boot. After the initial evoPOWER Camo teaser, Puma officially released the power boot on Friday. You can find the full details of the release here. Cesc Fàbregas, Marco Reus, Theirry Henry and new Puma signing Mario Balotelli all played key roles in the release. Yaya Toure has also switched out of his Puma Kings for the evoPOWER.

The evoPOWER is one of the last boots to still focus on Power. Nike ditched the T90 Laser for the more agility and speed oriented Hypervenom and the Adidas’ Predator LZ is more focused towards control. The evoPOWER features a 7.2oz weight, an innovative spine soleplate, and a new AdapLite synthetic upper with raised regions to increase power.

But how did the boots perform over its first action filled weekend? Read on to find out how wearers of the new power boot performed over the last few days.

Released to market on February 1st, but you can preorder at soccer.com right now.

The Good

balotelli evopower

Mario Balotelli – The eccentric and brilliant Italian striker led AC Milan to a 1-0 win by scoring a penalty over Hellas Verona on Sunday. He found the back of the net late in the game after Kaká went down in the penalty box. Although it wasn’t scored from free play, Balotelli was still influential throughout the game. Quite impressive, especially with new manager, Clarence Seedorf, guiding the team.

Reus in evoPOWER 1

Marco Reus – Another player that found the net off the penalty spot was Marco Reus. Dortmund went on to win 3-1 over second divison FC Kaiserslautern. Reus has scored eight times and notched five assists in 17 Bundesliga Games this season. In fact, he is tied for ninth in goals scored and tied for sixth in assists. Pretty good for a midfielder!

yaya toure evopower

Yaya Toure – Toure was his influential self in Man City’s 4-2 win over Cardiff City. Although the headlines may go to City’s collection of forwards, Toure has been the driving force in their campaign as of late. Toure scored to make the game 3-1, a great time for a goal as his side seemed like it was losing its usual composure and dominance. His teammate Pablo Zabaleta pretty much sums up his performance and consistency with “Yes probably he’s one of the best in the world. He’s a complete player.”

chiellini evopower

Giorgio Chiellini – Juventus won. Again. This time 4-2 against Sampdoria. It’s hard to argue against a team when they are 1st in Serie A, eight points clear. Although he didn’t score, it was a team effort as Juve won their 12th consecutive game.

Also notable mentions to Bacary Sagna (Arsenal) and Marcos Alonso (Sunderland), who both played a part in their side’s EPL win and draw respectively.

The OK

fabregas evopower

Cesc Fàbregas – Although Fàbregas has played a big part in Barcelona’s dominance this season, he wasn’t able to contribute much for his side as they drew 1-1 to Levante. According to Fàbregas, Barca was creating chances but they just weren’t getting the ball where they wanted it (in the back of the net). Of course, it could have been a lot worse for him and the evoPOWER if Barca lost to Levante and conceded the first place in La Liga to Atlético Madrid (who also tied this weekend).

Michael Carrick evoPOWER

Michael Carrick – Michael Carrick and the Red Devils suffered another loss under David Moyes. This time a 3-1 loss to Chelsea. Chelsea’s first goal came when Samuel Eto’o scored after a deflection off of Michael Carrick’s leg. Other than that, Carrick wasn’t that influential or that hurtful in his side’s loss. Unfortunately, the loss comes at a hard time, as Manchester United currently sit in 7th in the league table and 14 points from Arsenal at the top of the league.

The Bad

Chelsea v Man Utd

Nemanja Vidić – After seeing his team concede three goals to one Samuel Eto’o, Vidić was shown red after a challenge on Eden Hazard. After the game, the Manchester United skipper agreed that United was too far behind Arsenal to have a chance at winning the title. Instead, he believes the focus should be on securing a top four spot. I can’t say that seeing red and admitting you have no chance at the title is any good for both Vidić.

In the end, I think the Puma evoPOWER had a decent weekend. Obviously, a red card is never pleasant, but I think that having three of your top stars score makes up for it and then some.
