It is safe to say that we are headed into a new era of boot production and technology with the release of the hyper-advanced adidas Samba Primeknit. This is a bold release that you really need to delve into in order to really understand.
Weighing in at 5.8ounces, this limited edition lightweight boot is set to be the first football boot to have an upper that is knitted from heel-to-toe, providing a completely new second-skin fit that retains the strength of a conventional boot. Primeknit employs just one yarn, knitting the entire upper – wrapping the shoe around the foot. Engineered stiffness controls stretch and support. And while traditional shoes are constructed from several pieces, overlay and underlay, the Primeknit reduces the amount of materials to a single knitted layer.
New levels of flexibility and comfort are provided by the one-piece knitted upper of the boot and the yarns used to construct the Samba primeknit provide stability and strength equal to conventional boots. Yarn I hear you say. How is Yarn durable? Well, as you would expect that is a challenge Adidas challenged head-on and the result is each yarn receiving a high precision coating that guarantees water resistance even in the most challenging conditions. Adidas took them to pitches for testing between the months of September to December. Those months are known for the toughest conditions, extreme wetness & coldness. Adidas were in constant exchange with the players to gather their performance feedback and monitor the progress under sun shine, rain, wind and snow.
In terms of visuals, the boot almost has a brown like color due to the Samba combos included. The shoe combines four vibrant Samba colors in Solar Blue, Solar Zest, Blast Purple and Pink to a single yarn with a colorful melange effect.
It sounds like Adidas are taking this new technology pretty seriously, with a lot of emphasis through release on the fact that this innovation revolutionizes the game.

In terms of retail release, they will officially be available from March 17th with a price around the $350 mark. Hefty, but pretty much expected for a limited edition first run of the technology.
Honestly, I think this could be very successful if adidas did make it as water and weather resistant as they say. It could very well be the best fitting boot on the market if they did it right. Either way I will always love my leather boot collection.
I don't think anything will ever replace leather because it is thee go to material and this boot might not fulfil every possible player need but what boot does? I hate it when my leather boots stretch beyond fit. However, it's exciting to see adidas pushing the boundaries and delivering something new to the consumer. Ripped off Nike's idea which is a shame but I do like the clean look (lack of graphic elements other than the three stripes); Adidas should always stick with a clean look it suits them better (they don't know how to do loud colors/graphics as well as Nike).
There was no ripping off. There have been patents for knitted footwear for decades. The rumor was that Nike didn't develop the Flyknit technology until someone who was working on the Primeknit project at adidas jumped ship and ended up working at Nike, who obviously snuck Flyknit to market before Primeknit, which was scheduled to debut at the 2012 Olympics.
There is definitely a lot of history in this one, including the fact Nike teased their boot yesterday, with an earlier release compared to Adidas today but they don't release for several more weeks.
Would be sick if they would keep the design and made a full black leather, no nonsense one. Modern copa mundials!

Adidas advertise it as "yes" but it is wearing them in the conditions where we will really find out. In other words, I think we all want to know the answer!
