Nike Release 2014 USMNT Home Jersey

USA Home Jersey 2014

Now the excitement and anticipation for this summer’s World Cup can really set in for US soccer fans! This morning, Nike unveiled the latest, super fresh rendition of the US National Team Home Kit. This is the jersey we will see the mens team wear in Brazil and it is also what the womens team will be wearing through 2014.

Combining the best in performance innovation with a classic and bold new design, the new 2014 USA home kit is the ultimate expression of American style and patriotism.

Nike started with a white canvas, something we have consistently seen with the home jersey through the years, and they added gray horizontal pinstripes across the body and sleeves, a reference to the USA’s historic tradition of using stripes. Adding to the look, a white polo collar featuring red trim is added, a nod of respect to this iconic piece of American fashion and sportswear. It does have more of an off-pitch style and appearance to it, something that I am sure fans will be happy to wear games (and pubs where necessary!)

*For those interested, WeGotSoccer is offering a bonus limited edition poster with the purchase of a Match Jersey or a Stadium Jersey by 3/5/14!

NEW USA Home Jersey

US Home Jersey Back

Then there is the more intimate details that represent and symbolize true patriotism. Inside the back of the neck a blue pennant tab features the original thirteen stars of the American Flag, representing the most evocative symbol of American national pride. The back of the jersey includes a unique and specially designed font for the names and numbers, which is modern, angular and directly influenced by U.S. sports teams. And each number on the back of the jersey also houses a small U.S. Soccer crest at the bottom.

Then there is all the technology behind the design and we all know Nike value and focus on performance.

ULTIMATE IN COOLING AND COMFORT

The kit aids performance by regulating player body temperature over the course of the match. By using a combination of Nike Dri-FIT Technology, “burnout” mesh and laser-cut ventilation holes, designers are able to localize cooling where players need it most.

Nike Dri-FIT technology pulls moisture away from the skin to the outside of the garment where it evaporates more quickly. Laser-cut ventilation holes and engineered mesh in key areas where heat is generated allow for increased breathability and airflow across the skin.

In addition to keeping players cool, the kit is made with a new dual-knit fabrication that incorporates cotton and recycled polyester for the best in moisture wicking properties, while adding a softer feel and more flattering shape.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

In line with Nike’s commitment to superior performance with lower environmental impact, the shirt, shorts—and for the first time in a national team kit, the socks—all feature fabric made from recycled plastic bottles (100 percent recycled polyester in the shorts, 96 percent recycled polyester in the shirt and 78 percent in the socks). Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles. Since 2010, Nike has diverted almost two billion bottles from landfills, enough to cover over 2,800 full-sized soccer pitches.

PERFECT FIT

Designers used three-dimensional body scans of elite footballers to collect data on the form of today’s players and identify an updated fit, improving comfort and allowing the body to move more naturally within the kit.

While looking at every element of the modern soccer kit, Nike designers even paid special attention to the kits socks.

Combining athlete insights and research with new materials and fabrications, the Nike Elite Match Fit Sock for 2014 features a sleeker fit specific to football. Strategically cushioned zones provide comfort and protection at the big toe and anklebones where the majority of impact occurs, while arch support locks down the foot to prevent slipping. Material was also eliminated to enhance touch and decrease bulk, and flex grooves were added to the ankle and the top of the foot to prevent bunching.

NIKE PRO BASELAYER

The new Nike Pro baselayer is the lightest ever from Nike and features increased venting and breathability. Players have a variety of Nike Pro baselayer styles to choose from. These are designed for the varying temperatures and conditions that athletes will encounter in Brazil, which are expected to vary from high heat during midday matches, to much colder temperatures in the southern locations during evening games.

  1. Wow. Unfortunately I think this kit is hideous. It looks like an ugly golf polo and the players will look like clowns on the pitch. It's a shame. Very disappointed.

  2. I don't understand why it has gotten such negative feedback, I really like the look of it.

  3. I like the look, but it definitely feels like an off-field jersey with the polo.

  4. If the US Soccer crest wasn't ULTRA-LAME it might be a decent kit.
Glad I got my centennial jersey while they were still available.

    • While I agree the centennial jersey was absolute class, I definitely don't think the crest is lame by any means. Personally I think it signifies how US soccer culture is, and that is different.

    • I agree. The US Soccer crest takes a lot away from the overall design; having said that I think is a nice clean uniform.

  5. Honestly, I like the way the shirt looks, but I do not think it is appropriate as an on-pitch shirt. It doesn't even have anything to do with the collar, and more so with the cut, trim, and pinstriping. I think this shirt could have been pulled off my placing a v-neck collar or rounded collar in place of the polo-styled one, and to add a little bit of flair I would have alternated the pin-stripes in red, white(grey), blue. Now that would have been super nice. Again I like the way the shirt looks but I honestly could wear this shirt to school everyday, and if it was for the crest no one would know that I wasn't wearing a polo-shirt.

  6. Really? Man these guys are boring on a stick. How about the Captain America Stars n' Stripes? Now that would be cool and a statement.

  7. Just looks too plain and boring!

  8. Absolutely terrible. Colors are a mess…too light. What are we France? We need a bold uniform and we need the centennial shield. Nike really screwed up and, in fct, really showed that they are as out of touch with US soccer as the aussf is with US soccer fans.
