PUMA Tricks – World Cup 2014 Puma Designs Released

Puma evoPOWER Tricks

When brands want their boots to be seen, adding a splash of color is usually the way to go. Adding two entirely different colored boots is a completely different story! Yes, this summer in Brazil, get ready to see Puma sponsored players wearing two contrasting colored boots on their feet. This is part of the new Puma Tricks collection, that covers both the evoSPEED and the evoPOWER ranges.

Over the past few years, the Tricks series has become synonymous with wild patterns and cutting edge designs. We have regularly seen pro players sport opposite colored boots to modify performance (Benoît Assou-Ekotto being a prime example) and we have also seen Puma offer alternate Graphic designed boots. But these release take things to another level as they really are complete opposites.

With the right boot pink and the left boot blue, the new ‘Tricks’ uses its unusual look to represent the unbeatable confidence that players who wear them evoke on the pitch. From today, PUMA players will wear the boot on pitch including Mario Balotelli, Cesc Fàbregas, Sergio Agüero, Marco Reus, Radamel Falcao, Olivier Giroud, Gianluigi Buffon, Yaya Touré and many more.

With its unique look, PUMA ‘Tricks’ is a key product element within the Sport Brand’s Football Marketing campaign ‘The Nature of Believing’ that places the power of belief right at the heart of the sport. Players who wear ‘Tricks’ strongly believe in themselves, and not only strive to stand out on the pitch, they want to stand out forever and make history.

Spanish midfielder and current World Champion Cesc Fàbregas said about the new boot:

Like all Spanish players I am so excited to go to the World Cup in Brazil and these boots will make a statement. I’ve played in evoPOWER since January and it is such a good boot. We believe we can go far in the tournament, and I like that these colorful boots will accompany me on our journey.

And in terms of the Speed release, Argentinean scoring sensation Sergio Agüero commented:

I am always happy to stand out on the pitch. Usually I try to do so by scoring a goal, but why not play safe and wear an unusual pair of football boots? Jokes aside, I love my evoSPEED boots in these crazy colors and I cannot wait to go to Brazil, I really believe this will be a big moment for me.

Both looks are a bold statement by Puma and there is absolutely no doubting the fact both releases will stand out on pitch. For some, it might be difficult to discriminate between the evoPOWER and evoSPEED, but there is no way they will be mistaken for any other brand out there. There are also some obvious visual cues with the colors chosen. In play, the contrast between the shade of Blue and Pink chosen will allow players to read the game positionally and scope which players are around them.

On a side note, does anyone remember what the World Cup 2010 Tricks releases looked like? There is definitely more pop to this current set of releases and it simply illustrates where companies are headed with boot designs and marketing strategy.

In terms of retail, both pairs of ‘Tricks’ are available at soccer.com.

Seriously, what are your thoughts on the individual boot color design and would you sport this look? Let us know what you think in the comments below, or you can always find us on Twitter and Facebook.

  1. I'm glad they didn't do it for the King. I like it better than the garish designs from Adidas and Nike but I could never sport them. It will be fun to see a fair amount of players in big games with them. More power to you if you can rock those boots out.

  2. They look like a bunch of 13 year old girls swapping their left shoes on the last day of school.

  3. I am well satisfied with the shoe ..
