How to Choose the Right Pair of Speed Boots

Speed Boot Category

It is that time of year when players start to select new boots for the upcoming fall season. Obviously, choosing the right category of boot is the first step to ensuring you get the correct pair, with the option of Power, Control, Heritage and Speed providing players with completely different types of performance.

Lets say you have selected the category you want to go with, the question then comes in of how do you break down what pair from the many on offer is right for your style?

Here, we take a look at what the Speed Category has on offer and then we breakdown some of the better options currently available. Check out the video recap of all six recommended speed boots we pieced together and reference the brief breakdown of each below. Rounding it out, I also spent some time scouring the web for best prices on each silo in case you decide to snag a pair.

Nike Vapor X

The Low Down: A thin microfiber upper is layered with a simple textured upper for extra definition on the ball. Nike think outside the box with this version of the boot by successfully introducing a tongueless design! Yes, there is no tongue on this one. Double lacing seals a snug fit right across the forefoot.

Any Deals? The first site to drop the Vapor X in price is SoccerLoco, who have them listed for $160 or 20% off. Alternatively, head to WeGotSoccer and get the 98 remake Vapor IX for $135. You need to use our exclusive coupon code, SC101X25 to get the lower price.

adidas adiZero F50

The Low Down: The boot that won the World Cup boot battle thanks to a slew of world class players wearing them. A thin upper with added technology such as SprintFoil and SprintFrame make it one of the more advanced speed boots ever released.

Any Deals? The pretty colorful Samba version that was released for the World Cup is on sale for $124 on Soccer.com for Goal Club members with plenty of sizes available.

Puma evoSPEED 1.3

The Low Down: The newest boot released on this list, Puma has slightly modified the range by adding an external support system, in the form of an Ever-Fit Cage. A large Puma hit that features some light texture has also been added to the lateral side of the boot.

Any Deals? At this point, sadly no. Your best price is a $167 Goal Club price on Soccer.com. Realistically, your best bet is on the very similar evoSPEED 1.2, which you can get at a best price of $102 also at soccer.com.

Mizuno Morelia Neo

The Low Down: An absolute quality boot that is finally available for fans in the US to buy! The lightweight leather upper offers optimal touch on the ball, while a naturally shaped soleplate with low profile studs ensures you get an incredibly comfortable ride through wear.

Any Deals? Not on this one! They can only be purchased on soccer.com for $202 Goal Club or you could spend some time searching for them on eBay.

Diadora DD-NA 2

The Low Down: Featuring a synthetic SuprellPro3L upper and an advanced soleplate known as the NET Breathing system, Diadora has elevated their stature as a brand by releasing a competitive speed boot to the market on first attempt. These boots offer a very accommodating fit and a comfortable feel on multiple surfaces.

Any Deals? This second edition release is pretty new to the market with no deals offered to date. But, they are the cheapest boots on the list at $150 regular price, you can find them on soccer.com.

Warrior Superheat S-Lite

The Low Down: Warrior’s first lightweight speed boot release that features a textured forefoot for enhanced touch on the ball as well as a ton of crazy Warrior technical speak. All you need to know is that they are comfortable and the tri-fusion bonded upper serves a valid purpose!

Any Deals? Of all the boots on the list, this is the best deal on offer – soccer.com has them on sale for an incredible $99 (original retail $200).
