The Lightest Puma Boot Ever Is Officially Released!

evoSPEED SL Released

Puma’s lightest and most revolutionary soccer boot ever has finally been officially unleashed to the market. Fresh off the heels of the Camo version, Puma has officially released the evoSPEED 1.4 SL, a boot that weighs in at 103grams or 3.6oz! The release colorway comes in a fiery and very vibrant Red Lava Blast.

The majority of the reduction of weight was achieved by Puma’s inclusion of a translucent textile upper material. It has a see through appearance under light and is extremely thin. Underfoot has also undergone some extreme maintenance, with a low weight PUMA SPEEDFRAME adding to the overall lightweight theme. In order for stability to remain a key factor in the boot, the evoSPEED SL has also been built with a minimalist heel counter that provides the foot with a snug fit through wear. Overall, it is an incredibly constructed boot and provides players with an absolutely unique type of performance.

Goal Club members can pick up a pair at soccer.com for $215.99.

evoSPEED SL Up Close

We just finished spending some time with the evoSPEED Camo, and the results are mostly on the positive side – bar one fine exception. Because of the construction process to create the boots, they are intended to last 10 games! So, you really won’t get a great deal of time with this boot and should only consider them for the big games. Another important note – they are designed for use on natural FG surfaces only. DO NOT under any circumstances wear these on turf, if you disregard the warnings, you will have a $250 that is separated at the soleplate with no chance of a refund (there is a warning on the boot, as per the image below.)

Puma evoSPEED SL Disclaimer

In case you were wondering, the performance of the Camo version is the exact same as the evoSPEED SL, only the visual upper pattern is different. This is Puma’s way of hiding the key elements of the boots before release, in a “sneak-peak” fashion! We were lucky enough to get hold of one of the 500 pairs released worldwide.

They are an incredibly comfortable boot for what they offer. Given that they are all about lightweight speed and are created using minimal materials, they fit extremely well and are very enjoyable to wear in game. That upper does have an odd feel to it, sort of like a piece of cardboard that has dried in the sun, but it still has natural movement and feel about it.

We had wondered if this was a boot we would see some pro players wearing, and Puma today confirmed that players including Sergio Agüero, Marco Reus, Radamel Falcao, Marco Verratti and Antoine Griezmann WILL wear this latest release. That makes things a lot more interesting, especially when you consider the durability of the boots. Players of this caliber will give us a better viewpoint of how the boot will hold us, as they put the boots through the highest level of testing.

Again, best deal for picking up a pair is if you are a Goal Club member – find them at soccer.com.

  1. If you want to feel like a pro get these boots – you will have to change boots every few weeks like the top players do, lol. Seriously though, I do like how they look

  2. Puma are serious with this whole light gets lighter thing. Surely there is no way any brand can create a lighter pair?

  3. Dang puma. Does it hurt if players stand on your feet? I’d imagine so but wanted to check since you’ve tested then.
