For most players out there, the dream of becoming a pro, earning a contract and swimming in a pool of free boots is just that ; a dream! But, for those that want a taste of the action, there is always the chance of winning and becoming part of the New Balance Blackout Squad. Yes, NB is searching for a fresh set of players that they can “sponsor” through the 2016 calander year. Boots and plenty of free gear is on offer, so it is definitely worth checking out.
The concept of the project is inspired by the practice of professional football players who test blacked-out boots prior to release. Competition winners will be the first members of public in the world to get their hands on the highly sought-after New Balance boots. The new Squad is looking for attackers and New Balance Football’s professional players are encouraging amateurs around the world to enter. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey said,
It’s been great to see lots of young aspiring footballers involved in the Blackout Squad, and I reckon this year the competition will be stronger than ever. It’s a great chance to win an unbelievable prize.
To earn a place on the Blackout Squad, applicants will be challenged in different ways dependent on the geographical location of their entry. These regions include the UK, USA, Spain, France, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the regional initiatives, there will also be a global competition that can be entered via the @NBFootball social media channels.
Those chosen as part of the squad will receive new product drops throughout the 2016/17 season in the latest colorways before they hit the shelves.

Disclaimer here; last year introduced us to an entirely new line-up of boots from NB. Of the releases, none were really impressive. In fact, I was surprised at the lack of performance qualities from each considering the brand had so long to bring their products to fruition. For V2.0, things are touted to be very different – and I sincerely hope that is the case or NB will have a short soccer future. Initial feedback I’ve heard from testers have been extremely positive. If they do manage to get the formula right, you definitely need to part of this new Blackout Squad.
