Pantofola d’Oro Now Available in the US!

Pantofola d'Oro Lazzarini Canguro in Metallic Grey

It has been some time since we ordered a pair of Pantofola d’Oro Lazzarini Canguro from the UK for a special review. In fact, it was early 2011 when they arrived in and we had the opportunity to experience exactly what the heritage style boot had to offer. At that time, the hype was real! Since that time, options for finding a pair of Pantofola boots in the US have continued to be limited to ordering from overseas, but this past week that all changed. Soccer.com is running an exclusive soft launch of Pantofola boots in the US right now, with 4 different Lazzarini Canguro colorways available to order right now. This is a very unique, long awaited addition to the market that is sure to please a lot of hardcore traditional fans.

We picked up a pair in the Metallic Grey colorway for a revisit – not quite a traditional colorway. But it proves a much needed opportunity to refresh our memory on what players can expect from the range.

Who are Pantofola d’Oro?

Pantofola d’Oro are an Italian company whose heritage dates back to 1886 when the old Lazzarini cobbler’s shop was founded in Ascoli Piceno, Italy. It was during the 50’s when Emidio Lazzarini approached club team Ascoli to make their team soccer cleats. Within a short space of time, the quality of the boots quickly improved. They were renowned for their exceptional softness, whilst giving outstanding ball control. Emidio Lazzarini’s secret lay in the soft calf-leather he used and the boot’s ergonomic form, which perfectly followed the contours of the foot. Players such as Ferenc Puskas, Jurgen Klinsmann, Sven Goran Erikkson and Roger Milla are just some of the players who have worn the brand over the past half century.

Review Summary

Take a minute and revisit our original Lazzarini Canguro review. We are going to piece together an updated feature of them in the coming weeks, but for now I’ll let the summary of the original review whet your appetite on what you are getting. Not the last sentence – how ironic that it took 5+ years, but what a solid addition to the market!

It took me a while to get my hands on a pair of Pantofola soccer cleats – but boy was it worth it! I personally love everything about the boot, especially the old school feel you get while wearing them. They just ooze class and offer fantastic performance on the field. If you want my advice, I say make sure you own a pair at least once in your career. Should you go and buy a pair today? I don’t necessarily think so (especially since you can’t run out and buy them in stores in the US right now anyway lol). You are going to have to pay a very high price to get a pair from Europe, so unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket, take a chance and hold on to the hope that Pantofola bring some of their boots to the US sometime soon.

  1. This is awesome! hopefully they'll do well and bring a full line over. The new Emidios that came out awhile ago look amazing!

  2. Not really any way to post this on Prodirect, I sent them an email, but most of the Lazzarini's they have described as Kangaroo leather are actually the Calf leather version. I was really disappointed in the quality of the k-leather when I ordered a pair marked as Canguro/Kangaroo. So I directly compared them to other Calf and K-leather cleats I had and they're exactly the same as the Calf. Then went back to prodirect and noticed that they have a lot of price differences in some cleats marked K-leather. Seems like anything with a base price of 160-180 is Calf, but some are marked K-leather, the real K-leather have a base price of 230.
