It is hard to imagine that the Adidas Predator PowerSwerve was released a full 3 years ago (2007-08 season), with 2 new Predator releases coming since! I spotted a few pairs while browsing on ShoeBacca and thought they were worth a shout-out out since they are no longer being produced. Zinédine Zidane was heavily involved in their creation and worked with Adidas innovation team to put the boot together. On release, Adidas claimed that they offered up to eight percent more swerve, and everyone remembers the PowerPulse element filled with tungsten powder!

The pictured White/Red/Gold colorway is the pair that has caught my attention, especially since they are on sale for $75.99 (originally $210.) I already have a pair in the classic Black/Red colorway stored in my closet, but they are on sale for $101.

Since the release of the Predator X, there has been much debate about how it stands up against the Powerswerve range. There are a lot of people that prefer the older version. Adidas Powerswerve DB review

In todays game with Aston Villa, it seemed like Liverpool were brimming with confidence. It only took Dirk Kuyt 7 minutes to put Liverpool one up. Then Steven Gerard really turned on the style scoring a hat-trick, including 2 penalties. Gerard wears the Adidas Predator Powerswerve in Black/White/True Blue.  The Adidas Predator PowerSwerve is as closest Adidas has got to the ‘Perfect boot’. One of the improvements Adidas has made is to re-engineer and integrate a new Predator technology into the strike zone for added shooting power. The Predator elements are also placed in the swerve zone for deadly passes and shots. In order to generate maximum momentum on shots, adidas included ‘PowerPulse chambers’. These are Tungsten powder-filled elements that shift weight towards the point of impact as you strike the ball. Steven Gerard is a hard working, hard hitting center midfielder who is renowned for scoring goals, and that’s who these cleats are perfect for. All of  goals came from set pieces, two penalties and a free kick. All of which had power and extreme precision involved. At first glance you will notice something pretty unique about the Powerswerve DB, its white leather has many ‘holes’ in it. Well, these holes are a new wave of ClimaCool technology that Adidas has taken from its clothing range. The idea of the ClimaCool design is to help air move more smoothly around, and through, the cleat. Match this with the with a fully ventilated mesh upper and breathable sock liner to ensure maximum airflow penetrating the boot and cooling the foot from every side.

A Soft and supple kangaroo leather upper in white leads to an eye-catching look, soft feel, lightness and a glove-like fit. This upper also has a cool silver flame design. The outer also has a reengineered Predator power Zone integrated into the front for improved shooting power. Predator technology is also in the swerve zone for passing and shot power and control. Puma v-Konstrukt III

Vidic recently started wearing the New Puma v-Konstrukt III. There is much advancement in these cleats including a redesigned boot lace cover system. The system is unique as it has a type of elastic cord that keeps the tongue held down. A TPU injected external heel counter with foot embracing support create a ‘Save Cage’ against outer forces to protect and prevent injury, whilst offering support and stability. To help with touch and control, Puma have created a new front design with padding around the shooting area. This is positioned to help with control and impact when striking the ball.
The v-Konstrukt II are available in the UK right now, while release of the v-Konstrukt III will be in January. The v-Konstrukt II – New Navy/Team Gold/White is also currently available in the US.

Lescott and Bernard Mendy both wear Nike Nike Total90 Laser II. Nike developed these cleats with swerve, power and precision in mind. Their focus was on developing a shooting sweet spot, and hence the front design of the cleat. Known as Shotshield technology, Nike placed rubber zonal rings on the strike zone with direct injected rubber. The circular pattern is designed to help player shape shots and control the ball. Inside the cleat there is eVent membrane, which helps keep feet dry. Wayne Rooney also wears these cleats.

Abdoulaye Faye has worn several different types of cleats this season including Adidas Predators, Nike Mercurial Vapors and most recently Adidas adiPURE TRX in master blue/white. These cleats have an upper Kangaroo leather glove like fit. They are about as pure and simple as you can get cleat wise. At 9.6 ounces they are pretty light. Designed for the no-nonsense central midfielder who is not afraid to get stuck in on a tackle.

Ledley King Scores

Ledley King scored a key goal for Spurs in his white Adidas Predator Powerswerve. Predators have been legendary since the Premier League’s creation in the 90’s. This version has two major advantages over other boots; Powerswerve impact and Powerpulse. Powerswerve allows a player to add swerve to the ball by using a rubber interface, allowing for extra control on contact with the ball. Powerpulse is the insole insert that has Tungsten powder filled elements. These shift as you swing into the ball adding extra power and increased flexibility. The newest version of the cleat comes in Dark Indigo/Metallic Silver/Pool.
