Robbie Keane returns to Spurs

Following in the footsteps of Jermain Defoe and Pascal Chimbonda, Robbie Keane made his second debut for Totthenham Hotspurs. And although it did not have a fairytale ending , Spurs still claimed a point against local rivals Arsenal and the Spurs fans will no doubt have been happy to see Keano’s return! It has been a topsy turvy year for the Irish man that saw him move from White Heart lane to the team he followed as a kid, Liverpool. After winning the Carling Cup with spurs, it seemed like the next best step. But, as it turns out, captaining a very talented Spurs team is where he belongs!

Keane wears the Nike Total90 Laser II FG – White/Black/Blue Sapphire. These cleats are designed for those looking for stability, fit, traction ball control and shooting accuracy. Featuring innovative ShotShield technology, which enables a covered lacing system, increases ball control. The Laser II range varies in price from $150 to $200. Keane has worn Nike cleats since he was playing at Wolves, and recently stated that the Total90 Laser II were the most comfortable cleats he has worn. An alternative to these cleats is the little more affordable Nike Total90 Strike II FG – White/Black/Blue Sapphire. The Strike II is priced under $100. The main difference between the cleats is the leather used, and the weight difference. In fact, the Strike II cleats are lighter! Overall, you are not losing too much quality with the Strike II. In terms of looks, the cleats are very similar. The Strike two colorway is a little darker, but not that much more noticable.

Umbro-Bring It On

This is a pretty cool Umbro commercial that was released last year. To me, it reminds me of the passion involved with soccer back home. Umbro has been around since 1910, and are famous for being one of the leading brands in English football. The current range include the SX Valor Range, worn by the likes of Michael Owen and Chelsea’s Deco. If you are looking for a classy, gritty, yet well priced cleat, Umbro is a good option. Nike Mercurial IV Citron debut

The Pink Panther has changed to the Citron Panther! After being the first to wear the Nike Mercurial IV Berry, Franck Ribery broke out the Nike Mercurial IV Citron in Bayern Munich’s final Champions League group game. Bayern Munich won the game 3-2, with Ribery getting on the score sheet. Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Adriano also wore the cleats in Inter Milan’s game. It seems that Nike have a plan to keep bringing new bright and interesting colors to the pitch. The wait for the Citron version of the cleat will be a while. The cleat release is not set until Feb 1st, so for now players will have to stick with the Berry Version!

Last weekend in Serie A, AC Milan’s Brazilian star Pato was the first to debut the citron cleats. Pato had the assist on Kaka’s goal in the 1-0 win over Catania. Over the past year, Pato has also been one of the first to wear the Sport Red/Met Gold/Blk version, and also the Orange Peel (as pictured).

Early Thursday morning, Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo also wore the Nike Mercurial Citron, so it seems that he may also wear the cleats this weekend in United’s huge Premier League clash with Tottenham. Ronaldo has not been scoring lately for United, but no doubt he will want to impress wearing his new cleats as the new Ballon D’or winner (European player of the year)!
