Parents and Guardians,

As a parent, former professional player and a youth coach, I know the absolute importance of finding the most appropriate footwear for young players. Trying to keep updated with the latest releases, technology and developments in footwear is probably not a goal for most parents and that is where we come in.

The first place to start before we continue is our detailed Complete Guide to Buying Soccer Cleats. It is jam packed full of quality information on what to look for in a boot and where to find the best deals. Before you go having difficult conversations with your son or daughter about boots (especially when you know they are going to want the $300 neon yellow pair) read the guide! Paying more money definitely doesn’t mean you are getting the best value, plus we have key tools and tips to help you save a bundle of money.

Below you will find some general information and answers to commonly asked questions we receive. I hope it helps you out when it comes to researching new boots and I look forward to sharing some important knowledge with you!

Common Questions

Why are boots so colorful? What happened to Black boots?
When you walk into a soccer store or look at listings online, soccer boots are often displayed against a white or black backdrop. As a result, companies started using bright colors that are vibrant and easily stand out, differentiating their products from others.

Thankfully, there has been a slight switch in direction over the past few months, and now black boots are more of the “in thing.” Take for example the recent Nike Academy Pack that was released. Yes, there is hope!

What is the most important characteristic of a soccer shoe?
Comfort. Without a doubt, you need to find a pair of boots that your child feels comfortable wearing.

Should I buy the most expensive boots?
Definitely not needed, in fact expensive boots are usually designed for a more professional level of play and lack durability. The mid-tier release is often the boot that provides the most efficient level of performance.

How many pairs should my son/daughter wear in a season?
That varies across several different scenarios. For example, what type of surface will he/she play on? How many games are there in the season? Will they be training every week? In general, one pair of Firm Ground boots should sustain a 20 game season, but it is always wise to have a back-up pair.

How do I know I am buying the right size?
Soccer Cleats fit very similarly to normal running shoes. In general, it is a good idea to order up a half size for youth players to allow their feet to grow comfortably.

  1. MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN WEARING PREDATOR LZ FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS THIS YEAR WITH ALL OF THE POSATIVE REVEIWS WE SWITCHED TO THE PREDATOR INSTINCT USING THE SAME SIZE 6.5 MENS CUT SHE PLAYED THREE GAMES THIS WEEKEND AND CAME AWAY WITH A BLISTER ON HER LEFT INSIDE OF HER ARCH BEETWEEN HER BIG TOE BONE AND THE ARCH AND THEN ON HER RIGHT FOOT SHE HAS A CALUS THAT HAS BUILT UP ON THE INSIDE OF HER TOE OVER YEARS AND SHE GOT A BLISTER UNDERNEATH OF THE CALUS. SHE HAS NOT BEEN WEARING THE SHOES IN PRACTICE TO KEEP THEM FRESH(AS SHE EXPLAINS IT) SO IM WONDERING IF IT IS A BREAKIN ISSUE OR IT IS A SIZING ISSUE OR EVEN POSSIBLY A COMBINATION OF HER CLUB SOCKS GETTING OLDER AND MORE COARSE AFTER WASHING AND THE VELCRO TYPE MATERIAL BUILT INTO THE SHOE. I HAVE READ ALL OF YOUR ARTICLES AND I AM AN AVID FOLLOWER I READ BREAK IN TECHNIQUES UNFORTUNATELY BEING A SYNTHETIC BASE WOULD THE TRICKS OF VASOLINE OR SOAKING THEM WORK? WE HAVE NEVER HAD A BREAK IN PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THE OTHER PREDATOR LZ MODELS SHE HAS OWNED. SHE PRACTICES AT LEAST 3 NIGHT A WEEK AND ECNL GAMES ON SAT AND SUN. MY INITIAL COARSE OF ACTION IS TO HAVE HER START WEARING THE BOOTS AT LEAST 20 MIN DURING HER PRACTICE SESSIONS AND INCREASING THE TIME AS HER FEET WILL ALLOW, ALSO IM THINKING OF GETTING HER SOME OF THE ESPECIALLY DESIGNED SOCKS FOR SOCCER PLAYERS . IF YOU CAN GIVE ME ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT THANKS.

    • That is an unusual one, but something that can definitely happen between different silos. What are the fields like she was playing on when she got the blister just in front of the arch? That sounds like a hard ground field or there is a blade in he location causing pressure on her foot. Either way, that to me indicates she might need something with a more versatile soleplate – think conical studs in a more basic formation (like for example the Nike Premier).

Definitely get her to wear them around as much as possible – I'd recommend even wearing them around the house. That provides a very basic interaction with the boots without impacting durability. Do you still have the Pred LZ? As much as you can, let her ease her way into the new boots and if it continues to be an issue I'd definitely consider moving on to another boot. Top recommendation for comfort right now: the 11Pro series!

  2. Hey, I'm looking to replace some old cleats. The first are Puma Men's Powercat 1.10 JB Final FG cleats, and the second are Nike Total 90 Laser FG. What do you recommend? I want replace the pumas with pumas and nikes with nikes. thanks

    • For the Powercat you would go with the current evoPOWER series. They fill a similar void and offer striking specific benefits. For the T90 Laser, there isn't anything in the Nike series that fits a similar mode. They have drifted away from the "power" mold. The next best thing would be to check out the Hypervenom series (although they are focused towards agility)

  3. Have you ever heard of jeume.com? They have really low prices, which I don't trust, but a few parents from our club want to try it. I can't believe anyone would be able to sell authentic boots at the prices they advertise, but was hoping you had some info that might help us.

  4. I want to replace F50's from the 2014 samba pack to the black and white Nike mercurial vapor X's, is this a good switch? Or would you recommend me something else?

    • You are sticking along the lies of speed, so you are on the right track! An ideal replacement would the evoSPEED series or the new Under Armour Spotlight that was just recently released. They both focus on similar attributes.

  5. Do you know about soccervipsoccer.com and soccerkp.com? I checked it myself and they have extremely low prices and cleats I've never seen before in such a color. I would love to buy such cleats in low prices like the ACE16+ but I dont want to waste my money in a fake cleat that one last anything. I contacted soccerkp and the person said it was good quality but I'm not sure, what would you recommend me to do?

  6. Both counterfeit sites, Always check the contact and about page. It usually gives it away!

  7. I want to know if soccerkp.con can be trusted thank you
