I arrived at New England Revolution just after Clint Dempsey made his move to Fulham. All of the guys talked about how good he was on the field, and how much of an entertainer he was off the field. This past weekend in Fulham’s game with Chelsea, Dempsey was the real entertainer ON the field scoring two clinical goals, wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor IV Citron. Dempsey is already a fan favorite at Craven Cottage, especially for the winning goal against Liverpool in the final game of the 2006-07 season, the goal that kept Fulham in the Premier League! Against Chelsea, he got on the scoresheet early in the first half, and got his second goal as the game was about to go into added time. Climbing over the Chelsea defense, Dempsey powered the ball into the top corner for what could be an important goal in the race to the Premier League Title.
Cristiano Ronaldo also wore the Nike Mercurial Vapor IV Citron in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. Dimitar Berbatov got the winning goal, but a huge talking point in the game was the altercation that took place between Ronaldo and Emmanuel Pogatetz. Pogatetz seemed to pull Ronaldo down by the neck in the area, as United had a corner kick. With no whistle from the Referee, Ronaldo was left fuming, and took to asking the official why he had not made a call for the foul at half time. This led to an even bigger arguement between Ronaldo and some of the Middlesbrough staff as they entered the Tunnel. Ronaldo played well, but is still not at the level he enjoyed last season.
