Up Close – adidas Ace Tango 17+ Purecontrol IN

Ace Tango 17+ Purecontrol

The adidas revolution continues to evolve as they take their laceless revolution off pitch and into the short-sided game with ACE Tango 17+ Purecontrol. Besides the fact that these look glorious – the Core Black/Solar Blue/Pink colorway is BOMB –  there is a lot of tech specs that make them worth checking out.

When it comes to laceless style designs, this is about as good as it gets. A Primeknit upper wraps your foot in a very snug fashion for added comfort, while a Zoned Primeknit vamp with ControlSkin adds extra control when you need to get out of tight spaces. Inside the boot, an internal support cage provides added support while helping to keep you locked in. The one thing of note is that they are designed to fit snug – they have to since they are laceless. Players need to be prepared for a very snug foot from first wear, if you are claustrophobic, stay clear!

Another cool feature is the addition of Boost in the heel, something has become a key piece of the Tango line-up. Boost is a groundbreaking innovation in cushioning. It provides more energy return than any other foam cushioning material in the running industry, combining soft comfort with responsive energy for the ultimate running experience. When added to the heel of a soccer style shoe, it helps keep you comfortable all game long, while also providing more responsiveness during your cuts and sprints.

Ace Tango17+ Purecontrol Sole Traction

Underfoot, adidas add a very unique style traction system. There is plenty of definition to the rubber outsole, with the design weaved together in similar fashion to a tiled roof. Some of the tiles are elevated with added texture, while other areas are undulated in a figure eight style fashion. Under the heel, several pieces are cut out to allow visual access to the layer of Boost.

One of the most common questions we get about Purecontrol boots is how they fit and if they actually stay on in play. Even though they are extremely snug, the pull tabs on the heel lining make them really easy to slip into. You need to angle your foot at first and wiggle in by using the tabs to pull the shoe on. When it comes to in play performance, because of the nature of the Primeknit material around the ankle lining, there is no concern about them slipping off – the fit is very secure.
