If you are in the mood for an iconic new boot, Umbro has delivered at the perfect time. Making it’s reappearance is a boot that has been crafted to the same standards and specifications as the original version released
in 1998, the Umbro Speciali 98. This is a boot that pays tribute to the pair that made headlines on the feet of Michael Owen. You might recall THAT wonder goal he scored vs Argentina as an 18 year-old.
So, what exactly is on offer? Umbro use a thin, buttery soft kangaroo leather upper to create a perfectly natural fit and quality touch on the ball. By using a new tanning process, the leather is thinner and stronger, increasing the durability while still keeping things lightweight. Then there is that classic fold over tongue, providing players with that old school, traditional look. Underfoot, things are a little more modern, with Umbro using the same plate we have seen introduced on some recent releases. A TPU outsole with Wishbone technology in the midfoot and Memory Flex grooves under the ball of your foot offer a natural and free feeling when cutting and changing directions. And when you include the conical studs, you can double down by using them on both FG and artificial turf surfaces.
Alongside the boot, a range of clothing inspired by the 1990s and the original boot design has also been released, while Umbro’s iconic Italia backpack and Ceramica ball have also had a Speciali-inspired facelift.
