The Nike Vapor 14 Club Junior is a cleat created for beginners, players who need a simple pair to get them through their first practices and games. We are talking very unsophisticated from the Swoosh, keeping the overall design simple and addressing key functionality to make them ideal for young players. All combined in a package that drops in at a budget friendly $40!
And it is all highlighted by my son’s favorite addition to the boots; a Velcro tongue. He was the one wearing these boots for review, in case you were wondering. The Vapor 14 Club Junior is built without laces, what are usually the the bane of a parents (or coaches) existence at youth soccer. You know when you tie your son or daughters laces in double knots and 5 minutes later they come running over to get the tied again. How does that even happen? Well, no more thanks to the large flap across the midfoot that velcros the boots into place. Problem solved.
Austin loves the fact he can easily slip the boots on himself, with his only big job being to Velcro them into place. It took him no more than a minute to get them on and was super proud that he could get it done by himself. There were a few times when he couldn’t quite pull the flap into place tight enough, so I’d help tuck the under piece and pull it across a little tighter. This was always a two second adjustment, and then he would go on his merry way.
In terms of comfort, I never heard any complaints from him. He wore them in practice and mini scrimmages with no problems. At his age (7) there really is no need for gimmicks or lighter materials. It is all about having something that is functional and provides him with a distraction free fit as he plays.
Underfoot, the soleplate and stud configuration are very basic. But it provides the grip needed on both FG and AG with no noticeable problems during play.
Nike just moved on to the newest generation, releasing a Jnr Vapor 15 Club edition. They are very similar in style and function, running from a size 8k to a 13.5k. With more sizes available right now, they are probably a better option to check out. And they are also listed for just $40.
