A new version of the Puma PowerCat 1 was released this week as part of their Champions League collection. With players like Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Vidic in action in the New Orange/Purple colorway, Puma chose the ideal platform to highlight the new look.
While talking about the new release, Cesc Fàbregas stated that:
It has been almost exactly two years now since I signed with PUMA and in that time I have always worn the PowerCat boot. PUMA regularly provides new colourways in the Power range and I like that I am sometimes the first player to wear them on pitch. The new colourway of the boot looks really cool and very different to what I have had in the past, so I am excited to wear it in our first Champions League match of the season.
Fabregas helped Barca win their opening game versus Ajax, and yesterday he bagged a goal in La Liga action. Not a bad start for the new colorway! Featuring the newest PUMA technology, the PowerCat 1 is designed to improve control on the ball, thanks to the 3D PST DUO Technology that sits on the forefoot. Increased power and precision is also a key focus of the boot and they are the only legitimate Power boot left on the market.
This latest colorway will be available to buy on October 1st.
The PowerCat has been on the market a long time at this point, in fact we are creeping up on the 2-year mark at this point. We review them back in 2011 with pretty positive results all around (read that review here). I understand the Fabregas is happy with the performance of the range, but it seems like Puma is in need of a revamp and a new version of the boot. There is a full bodied feel about the release and they really are the only true Power boot we have left on the market, but the PST DUO zone on the forefoot has become slightly outdated and I’d like to see Puma release something with a little more pop and functionality! I can bet there is something new on the horizon…..
