After several weeks of speculation, Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has decided to join Team Adidas and wear the F50 adiZero. He had been sporting several different brands over the past few weeks and we were well aware he was being tracked by several brands. Our bet was on Puma to swoop in and sign on another attacking player that fits the mold of their boots, but it was the 3-stripe that won the race for his signature, securing one of the most formidable strikers currently in the game.
Over the last two seasons Diego Costa has risen to prominence as one of the hottest properties in world football and is among the top goalscorers in La Liga and Europe this term. He signs with adidas ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil where, if chosen, he will represent Spain at the finals.
Upon signing with adidas, Costa said:
I’m delighted to sign with adidas who are the true leaders in global football. The brand has a fantastic history but they are also at the forefront when it comes to innovation, which is why I was drawn to them so much. I look forward to great success wearing adidas boots and I’m proud to join the group of other great players adidas sponsors.
Costa had been wearing Nike boots over the past few seasons, with the Mercurial Vapor his boot of choice. But now we will see him wearing the f50 adiZero range of boots on-pitch, joining a prolific and illustrious group that includes the likes of Leo Messi, Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez.
