We are through week #8 in the current MLS season, and there are already some front runners for leagues best players. Here we check in and take an early look at who is doing what and the boots they are currently wearing.Note that we are already seeing one common theme running across top goalscorers, something I’m sure adidas will be happy with!
Carlos Vela – LAFC
10 goals and 5 assists in 9 games
Vela has been absolutely wonderful to watch this season. He is the first player to hit double digits this season, with 10 goals and 5 assists in 9 games. Yes, LAFC are a few games ahead of the rest and their free flowing attacking style has helped the downtown LA club claim top spot in the league.
Vela is keeping it clean with a pair of adidas X18.1 in the latest icy white colorway.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic – LA Galaxy
7 goals and 1 assist in 5 games
The lion was sidelined for 2 games early this season, but he has already bagged 7 goals in just 5 games. And boy is he fun to watch! Every time the ball goes in the box, you sit there wondering what Zlatan is going to do next….twisting side foot volley, over the head back heel flick. He is capable of doing anything!
Zlatan has stuck to his tried and trusted Nike Mercurial Vapor XII since joining MLS. Why change when you are the lion and comfortable in what you are wearing?
Alejandro Pozuelo – Toronto FC
4 goals and 5 assists in 4 games
Remember there was a time when we wondered if Toronto could fill the huge void left by Giovinco? Well, it didn’t take them long. Spanish midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo has quickly adjusted to MLS, with 4 goals and 5 assists in just 4 games. WOW! Giovinco who?
Like Vela, Pozuelo is also currently wearing the adidas X18.1.
Nani – Orlando FC
4 goals and 4 assists in 8 games
It took a few games, but finally Nani is coming into his own with Orlando FC and showing some top form. No one was sure of what to expect from Orlando this season, but they have a lot of promise with the Portuguese striker showing he can take MLS by storm. He has 4 goals in his last 3 games, or 4 goals and 4 assists in 8 games this season.
Nani is another player currently wearing the adidas X18.1.
Steve Birnbaum – DC United
1 goal, 1 assist and 4 clean sheets in 8 games
It is a tough life for defenders, trying to get their name on a top player list. But Birnbaum deserves his spot with 1 goal, 1 assist and 4 clean sheets in 8 games thus far. Both his goal and assist proved pivital in two seperate games (Orlando and Coloarado) resulting in 6 points gained!
Birnbaum is in serious throwback mode, currently wearing the F50 adiZERO Supernatural that were released in 2014.
great post, I love this
These are great articles I Like these. thanks for sharing this post.
Great post. Stumbled upon it while trying to prove to Debbie mls players get to wear any boot they want. Only reason why she thinks its exclusive adidas is cause all the boys were on GA contracts.
I really loved this post. I was trying to search for the top players and found them here.
