Asics has finally made the move into the mainstream US soccer market by adding their boots to two of the leading retail sites; WorldSoccerShop and Soccer.com. Although I don’t have a great deal of experience with Asic’s soccer cleats, their addition to the market is a move that I very much applaud – new companies and footwear options are always a good thing! There are several different ranges available, with each offering their own dynamics. Here is a general breakdown of what you can expect to see on the US market right now, with a more detailed breakdown to follow on each in the coming week.
- Lethal Tigreor – Price Range: $135
The top of the line release, designed for great touch and modern performance. An all new outsole ensures fast reactions and excellent grip when needed. Features a Kangaroo leather upper, and they weigh in at 9.6oz.
- Lethal Testimonial – Price Range: $115
An all-time classic, these boots offer that old school feel and are on of Asics most popular. They can be compared to the Adidas Copa Mundial. Feature a Kangaroo leather upper, and they weigh in at 9.8oz.
- Lethal Stats – Price Range: $110
A lightweight boot with a high grip outsole that offers great in-game responsiveness. Features a Kangaroo leather with an added RhynoSkin synthetic leather layer on the lateral edge to enhance stability and support. Weigh in at 9.4oz.
- Lethal Flash – Price Range: $90
Seen as the more economical release in their line-up, the Flash offers solid performance and optimum durability. Features a Synthetic leather upper and weigh in at 9.2oz.
Asics seem to be serious about the US market, with the following information coming from a recent press release:
All of Asics shoes incorporate an exclusive HG10MM® technology, which utilizes a 10 millimeter heel gradient. This slightly changes the angle of the hip, knee and ankle to reduce the common over-use injuries of the Achilles tendon and hamstring associated with on field play. The angle also shifts the body forward to allow for faster transitions from standstill to action with less strain on the lower body.
Matt Donnelly, Footwear Manager for ASICS America Corporation stated that “Like our other ASICS cleated products, our main point-of-difference in the soccer category is our HG10MM technology. The new 2011 styles bring new life to a category that embraces technological advances and we are very proud to introduce this collection to the US market.”
Visually, my personal favorite is the high-end Pearl White/Black version of the Tigreor. Another sweet look is the more economical Pacific Blue/Black/White Flash. I obviously want to get each range tested as soon as possible, especially if Asics are planning on staying around for a while! Again, you can find the entire range of available boots on both WorldSoccerShop and Soccer.com.
What are your thoughts on the ranges and do you have an interest in what Asics have on offer?
My friend just got the Ascic Lethal Tigreor in white pearl black, they look really good, have a great touch and aren't that heavy, I personally like them and can't wait to hear what you think of them. I also noticed the back studs was a little forward compared to most cleats and was wondering what that was for, thanks for posting this! 🙂
Awesome! This is great news…thanks for the post!
How bout the sizing? are they true to size ?
Hopefully Mizuno will follow. I would love to get a pair of Wave Ignitus'.
I stopped by at Dick's Sports earlier today and saw the whole lineup of Asics soccer cleats. Did not know Asics has made it into US market. Congrats to them – their boots do have presence in Serie A
I visited Dick's the other day, and to my surprise, they had a competitive range of Asics boots in stock! It's a shame I have already purchased my boots for the upcoming season, or else I would definitely have considered buying a pair of Asics. Their products look really, really good!
