Cristiano Ronaldo and Alonso Debate; Nike or Adidas!

CR Training

I’ve been there as a professional player, walking out onto the training pitch in the morning and a fellow player brings up a discussion about fashion or something that happened the previous day. The conversation can get heated and it can last well into (if not after) the training session.

But this one caught on video between Cristiano Ronaldo and Xabi Alonso is one of the best yet. Both players, as well as some others standing around, get into a debate over which soccer boot brand is better; Nike or Adidas. Ronaldo is the key player in all of Nike’s advertising for the Mercurial Vapor range, while Alonso has been with Adidas the majority of his career so both had a point to prove.

Alonso is obviously the instigator trying to wind up Ronaldo and you can tell he has more of a senior figure personality, pulling out several gems about Nike including referring to the boots as “Plastic”, pointing out the fact that Real Madrid are sponsored by Adidas and asking CR how like Nike were around “like 3 years?” Considering the fact Nike has an entire CR7 Collection, I think Ronaldo doesn’t need to do a great deal of arguing in this one.

Pretty comical stuff – well worth watching. Check out the video below!

  1. For me it isn't about how long a company has been around, it's more about quality materials, build and fit. I wear Nike Tiempo's (ll-lV) because of the use of high quality leather, comfort, and way they fit me. The argument that it's better because it's been around longer lacks merit. By that logic, Alonso should be wearing whatever the oldest brand he can get his hands on. Alot of it comes down to personal preference as well.

    • Adidas are the oldest brand around…

      • No they are not. Have you every heard of a brand by the name of Pantofola d"Oro? The have been producing boots since the late 1800s. Adidas did not begin creating boots until the 1950's/1960's. To be quite fair, if we were gonna argue that Adidas and Nike (and maybe even Puma) are creating the best boots, we could definitely come up with less popular brands that are producing boots that are well better in quality and comfort and performance, but simply lack the marketing of other brands. All in all however this argument is pretty pointless simply because of the fact that it is always going to be down to personal preference and never whether or not a company is producing great boots.

  2. hahaha ronaldo seems pissed
